Jane Tam grew up in the neighborhood of Bensonhurst in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents immigrated to New York City in the mid 1970s from Guangdong, China and took up blue-collar jobs such as truck driving and working in sweatshops in Chinatown. Most of her photographic work explores the weaving of Chinese and American cultures and how it defines many offspring of working class immigrants.
