Lee Friedlander – Cherry Blossom Time in Japan

MG 7626

Cherry Blossom Time in Japan系列。

The legendary American photographer Lee Friedlander first went to Japan in 1977 and found the whole country ablaze with blossom. He went again in 1979, 1981 and 1984, always at cherry-blossom time. And he knew that, Japan was always abloom. Friedlander’s images are evocative of Japanese pen-and-ink scroll paintings. Tree branches become calligraphy strokes.

Jochen Lempert

NewImage

(via

Jochen Lempert is a German photographer whose work is about the world of nature and animals. Lempert first studied as a biologist before turning to photography in the early 1990s. Accordingly, his pictures are marked with scientific aspects, not only referring to his motives but more to the whole process of photography.

Takashi Homma – In Our Nature

In Our Nature by Takashi Homma 11

· website

Takashi Homma has won a few awards for his work and has even published a few books previously, particularly one back in 2006 titled “Tokyo and my Daughter”. Really beautiful photography that not only showcased the culture in Tokyo but also the power of a father and daughter relationship. This book is called “In Our Nature” and in some ways is a bit different compared to his other works that all feature an urban environment of some sort. This photography is not linked to pure nature as such but to what we humans conceive as nature to be, making you feel like there is a sign of life somewhere in the distance. A step away from normality.

James Henkel

2 hands sunspots 93

· website

James Henkel

Artist James Henkel is an expert at play. With an imaginative spirit and a passion for problem solving, Henkel transforms every day objects, occurrences and scenes into quirky and eye-catching images. “All work alone. Very alone. It’s almost like improvisational theater. I find objects and just start to play. I ask myself : Why am I interested in this ? What are its qualities ? I see something, pick it up, take it to the studio… and keep it ; sometimes it sits in the studio for a couple years. It gets used or maybe it gets recycled. The objects become metaphors and symbols. I just continue to revisit things. It is play with purpose. There is a problem-solving element that I really enjoy.  It’s like being a kid, I grew up an only child: the being alone part goes hand in hand with imagination.” - James Henkel

08-4-4.jpg

· website
