Brought up in Beijing, China, Zhe Chen is a photo-based artist currently living in Los Angeles and southern China. Over the past five years, Zhe Chen has created a series of projects focusing on body modification, human hair, identity confusion, post-traumatic stress disorder, and memory. Her latest project, titled Bees, is a document of self-mortification among a community of disaffected Chinese. The difficult nature of her subject is made more complex by her lyrical approach, identifying the physical self-destruction of her subjects as an act of spiritual cleansing. – 2011 Inge Morath Award Winner Announcement

Ofra Lapid‘s series Broken houses is based on photographs of abandoned structures neglected by man and destroyed by the weather. The photos are found in the web while pursuing an amateur photographer from North Dakota who obsessively documents the decaying process of these houses. His photographs are used to create small scale models. Afterward, in the studio, the models are photographed again, omitted from their background and placed in gray.

– Rachel Bradley
Artist Rachel Bradley born in Pennsylvania. ”Departing from a background of traditional b/w photography, I abandoned the camera and darkroom as my primary artistic medium in 2006 in favor of a different approach. Using found objects, assemblage and handcraft, Hellboxes series have emerged. Hellboxes are containers for my obsessions: for salvage in a throw-away society, for telling stories and preserving memory and personal history with the objects that define our lives. On the street, at work, day in and day out, I collect objects: small, shiny things, discarded lists, lost toys, colorful wrappers, dead leaves. Utilizing containers of different sizes and materials.” - Rachel Bradley
